Depending on when and where you surf, a wetsuit can be crucial to keeping you warm and safe. Because wetsuits can be fairly expensive, though, it’s important to get the right one the first time out. You’ll need to give some thought to whether you’ll need a full or partial wetsuit - and even whether you’ll want a hooded wetsuit.

You’ll also want to think about brand. Even though a lot of products come from the same basic places, remember that top brands have names to defend, and for that reason, their quality control is typically much better than for off-brands. O’Neill wetsuits, for example, are among some of the best.
